The prosecution team is comprised of a number of individuals who must work cooperatively towards the successful prosecution of all cases. As a team, each member is responsible to keep all other members informed at all times about the status of the cases.

The prosecution team comprises of:Chief Deputies (definition)

Every member of the team is equally valuable. The chances are more likely that the prosecution will  be successful is everyone cooperates with each other and respects each other's position and role.

Key concept: Although all of the prosecution team may have contact with victims, primary victim contact will be with the victim advocate. Therefore, the relationship between the victim advocate and the rest of the prosecution team is vital in trial preparation and all court proceedings.

Victim advocates have contact with the victims prior to having a case set for trial (with the exception of Careless Resulting in Death and Child Abuse when the Deputy is permanently assigned to the case). Victim advocates make notations on the files indicating the victims’ notifications and victim issues and concerns. Prior to the Deputy having any victim meeting, the Deputy must read the case file completely.

Key Concept: Explaining to victims their rights in the system, emphasizing their right to be informed and participate in the case, is a perfect way to make them feel a part of the team.
