Restraining Order/Protective Order information

You can request a temporary restraining order if there has been harm, the threat of harm, or an act of violence.

New protection order cases are heard Monday through Friday (except holidays and court closure days) at 1515 Cleveland Place, 4th floor, in Denver County Courtroom 1 beginning at 8 a.m. It is helpful to arrive promptly at 8 a.m. and to allow 3 hours to complete the paperwork process and to see the Judge. (No new protection order filings will be accepted after 9:30 a.m.)

You may obtain the paperwork in advance by going to: www.courts.state.co.us

If you receive a temporary order, the hearing to make the order permanent will be scheduled in two to three weeks. Permanent Orders are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. and it is helpful to arrive promptly at 10:30 a.m.

Other information:

The Court filing fee is $87.00
The Sheriff’s fee for serving the paperwork is $37.00

If your case involves domestic violence, both fees are waived.

If you are indigent, the Court filing fee may be waived.

Day care for small children while you are taking care of protective orders is available at the Warm Welcome Child Care Center just down the street at 270 14th Street (14th Street and Court Street).
