CHARGE FILED IN DEATH OF 12-YEAR-OLD

Denver District Attorney Bill Ritter, Jr. has formally charged a man in connection with the auto-pedestrian death of a 12-year-old boy that occurred on December 19, 2003.

Mario Acklin (DOB: 2-19-75) is charged with vehicular homicide/DUI (F3).

The victim, 12-year-old Brendon Swatko of La Veta, Colorado, was crossing the street at 50th Avenue and Meade Street about 7:30 p.m. on December 19th when he was hit by an older model Chevy van. The charge alleges that Acklin was driving the van and that he had been drinking.  The victim was taken to Denver Health Medical Center where he died from his injuries.

Acklin has posted bond and is scheduled to appear in Denver County Court, room 12T, on January 6, 2004 at 9:00 a.m. to be advised of the charge.
