CHARGES FILED IN BRUTAL ROBBERIES

Denver District Attorney Bill Ritter, Jr. has formally charged a man in connection with two robberies and the attempted murder of a store clerk that occurred last month.

John Wise (DOB: 12-16-79) is charged with attempted murder (F2), first-degree assault (F3), attempted robbery (F4) and four counts of aggravated robbery (F3).

The charges allege that on November 23, 2003 Wise robbed several people at a Denver convenience store, then robbed a nearby supermarket a short time later.  During the robbery at the supermarket, a security guard was shot.  He remains paralyzed as a result of his injuries.  The Denver Police Department was able to develop information about a suspect.  He was later located and arrested on December 20, 2003.

Wise remains in custody in the Denver County Jail.  Bond has been set at $200,000.  He is scheduled to appear in Denver County Court, room 12T, on Monday, December 29, 2003 at 9:00 a.m. to be advised of the charges.
