 CASE UPDATES

Denver District Attorney Bill Ritter, Jr. has formally filed charges today in connection with one of the “Raspy Robber” cases as well as filing adult charges against two juveniles in the “Good Samaritan” case:

Ricky Bailey (DOB: 09-17-58) is charged with two counts of attempted aggravated robbery (F4) in connection with a robbery attempt on November 3, 2004 at a liquor store on Federal Boulevard.  This is believed to be the most recent robbery attempt by a man dubbed the “raspy robber” because of the sound of his voice.  Additional charges from earlier robberies are expected.

Also charged today was a man accused of being the get-away driver in at least some of the robberies.  Darren McGill (DOB: 10-24-83) is also charged with two counts of attempted aggravated robbery (F4).  Both men remain in custody in the Denver County Jail and will appear for formal advisement on Tuesday, November 16, 2004 at 9:00 in Denver County Court, room 12T.

Nicholas Moreno (DOB: 07-01-88) and Anthony Uballe (DOB: 12-05-87) are being charged as adults in connection with an attempted purse-snatching in the 700 block of Santa Fe Drive two weeks ago that ended with the shooting of a man, Matt Casias, who came to the victim’s rescue.  Moreno and Uballe are each charged with first-degree assault (F3), attempted aggravated robbery (F4) and attempted robbery of an at-risk adult (F4).

They will be transferred from the Gilliam Youth Detention Facility to the Denver County Jail and will be formally advised of the charges next week.  Arturo Moreno (DOB: 11-28-85) was charged last week in connection with the attack.
