Man charged in hostage situation
Bill Ritter Jr. has filed charges against a man accused of
holding a 21-year-old woman at knifepoint in a Denver fast food
restaurant last weekend.
Arturo Burmea (DOB 8-6-81) is charged
with First-Degree Burglary (F3),
Second-Degree Kidnapping (F3), Second-Degree Assault (F4), Menacing (F5), Criminal Mischief (F4), and Failure to leave premises (F4).
The charges allege that on June 12, 2004, Arturo Burmea
threw a brick through a window of the Church’s Chicken restaurant
on Colorado Blvd. and 34th
Ave in Denver. He then
entered the restaurant taking a woman hostage at knifepoint.
After lengthy negotiations police were able to disarm the
man by using less than lethal force. Both he and the victim were taken to
Denver Health Medical Center to be treated
for their injuries.
Burmea remains on a
police hold at the hospital. A court date has not been set at this time.
