DELINQUENCY PETITION FILED AGAINST JUVENILE

ACCUSED IN RECENT SHOOTING

Denver District Attorney Bill Ritter, Jr. has filed a petition of delinquency against a 13-year-old Denver boy in connection with the shooting death of Octavio Armendariz last week.

The delinquency petition filed against Christopher Carpenter (DOB: 6-28-90) today boy alleges reckless manslaughter and juvenile possession of a handgun.  Carpenter  remains in detention at the Gilliam Youth Center in Denver.  He is scheduled to appear in Denver Juvenile Court in June for a preliminary hearing.

If he is adjudicated a delinquent on the allegations, he could face incarceration in the Division of Youth Corrections for up to two years.

Carpenter was not eligible to be considered for adult charges; Colorado law requires a juvenile to be at least 14 years old for consideration of adult criminal charges.
