SEX OFFENDER
SENTENCED AS HABITUAL CRIMINAL
-Costillo
sentenced to maximum-
33-year-old Jesse Costillo
was sentenced to 220 years to life in the Department of
Corrections today by Denver District Judge Sheila Rappaport.
Costillo was found guilty
earlier of two counts of second-degree kidnapping, one
count of unlawful sexual contact, one count of
sexual assault, one count of robbery and two counts
of third-degree assault. Costillo attacked two women
in December of 2002 in separate attacks after being placed on
probation just days earlier for a prior assault.
Denver Chief Deputy District
Attorney Doug Jackson argued that due to his prior record the
court should convict Costillo of being a Habitual Offender and that
he should be sentenced accordingly. Judge Rappaport agreed
and noted that Costillo is a sexually violent predator prior
to sentencing him to the maximum sentence possible: 220 years
to life in prison. She noted that one of the cases was the
most heinous and degrading sexual assault case she had ever
heard.
Costillo chose not to make a
statement before being led from the courtroom in handcuffs.
