WOMAN CHARGED IN POLICE CHASE, ASSAULT

Denver District Attorney Bill Ritter, Jr. has formally charged a woman with multiple felony counts after she led police on a chase in a stolen vehicle last Monday night.

Valorie Darrow (DOB: 04-30-69) is charged with first-degree aggravated motor vehicle theft (F3), first-degree assault on a peace officer (F3), two counts of felony menacing (F5), three counts of criminal mischief (F4) and eluding (F5).

Darrow is accused of stealing a sport utility vehicle about 6:15 p.m. on November 15, 2004, then trying to elude police.  The charges further allege that she confronted officers with a baseball bat near Sheridan Boulevard and Evans Street and then tried to run one officer down with the vehicle before she finally crashed the vehicle into a police car and was taken into custody.

She was treated at Denver Health Medical Center for injuries she sustained and is currently being held in the Denver County Jail.  Her bond was set at $50,000.  Darrow will appear in Denver County Court, room 12T, on Tuesday, November 23, 2004, at 9 a.m. to be formally advised of the charges.
