TWO MEN CHARGED
IN FATAL CRASH
Denver District
Attorney Bill Ritter, Jr. has formally charged two men with
multiple felony counts in connection with a fatal crash and the
attempted murder of a police officer last weekend.
Justin Davis
(DOB: 5-1-83) is charged with first-degree murder with
extreme indifference (F1), vehicular homicide (F4),
vehicular assault (F5), attempted first-degree murder
of a peace officer (F2), second-degree assault of a peace
officer (F4), second-degree burglary (F3), and
leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death (F4).
Cesar Navarette
(DOB: 9-13-83) is charged with first-degree criminal
trespass (F5) and possession of a controlled substance (F6).
The charges allege
that on Saturday, September 11, 2004 Davis and Navarette were
driving on I-70 when Davis fired shots at a Denver police
officer who was driving in uniform in his personal vehicle. The
charges allege that a short time later they ran a stop sign at
38th Avenue and Bryant Street causing a crash that
killed 62-year-old Judith Miller and injured her husband,
65-year-old Jerry Miller.
Both men remain in
custody in the Denver County Jail. Davis is being held without
bond; the bond for Navarette has been set at $500,000. They
will be advised of the charges on September 20, 2004 at 9 a.m.
in Denver County Court, room 12T.
