Man charged with police impersonation

Denver District Attorney Bill Ritter, Jr. has formally charged a man in connection with impersonating a police officer.

Derik Dohm (DOB: 08-02-81) is charged with two counts of impersonating a police officer (F6) and possession of red or blue lights (M1).

The charges allege that Dohm went to a Denver home on August 24, 2004 and introduced himself as Detective Scott.  He was wearing a badge, gun on his belt and was looking for a man that he claimed was wanted for grand theft auto.

The charges allege that Dohm returned to the house on August 26, 2004 in a truck with a red and blue light bar introducing himself again as Detective Scott.  Dohm allegedly spoke with a resident demanding him to return a truck he just bought or else he would be arrested.

Dohm is out on bond but will appear in Denver County Court, room 12T, on October 27, 2004 at 9 a.m. to be formally advised of the charges.
