Former Corrections Officer Sentenced to Jail

Daniel Gallegos (DOB 8-9-73) was sentenced today in connection with two separate assaults on women in prison.  Both victims were inmates at the Denver Women’s Correctional Facility.

Gallegos is a former corrections officer who pleaded guilty earlier to second-degree assault and attempted sexual assault.  He was given a 2-year jail sentence with 4 years of probation for each charge, to be served consecutively.  The conditions of his probation include sex offender therapy and he will be required to register as a sex offender.

Chief Deputy DA Tim Twining spoke at the sentencing hearing today, requesting jail time as part of Gallegos’ sentence.  Denver District Court Judge Gloria Rivera granted his request, adding that his jail term could include work release.
