MAN CHARGED IN GRANDSON’S MURDER

Denver District Attorney Bill Ritter, Jr. has charged a man accused of shooting his grandson on December 1, 2004.

James Handy (DOB: 9-11-30) is charged with second-degree murder (F2).

Handy and his grandson, 24-year-old Aaron Handy, were involved in an altercation at the elder Handy’s home in the 2900 block of Columbine Street last Wednesday afternoon.  The charge alleges that Handy retrieved a shotgun from inside the home and shot the younger Handy in the front yard.

James Handy remains in custody in the Denver County Jail.  He is scheduled to appear in Denver County Court, room 12T, on Friday, December 10, 2004, at 9 a.m. to be formally advised of the charge.

The presumptive range for sentencing on a class 2 felony is up to 24 years in the Department of Corrections.
