HERRERA AND SANDOVAL PLEAD GUILTY

The murder trial of Edward Herrera ended today when Herrera agreed to plead guilty to the murders of four people and the attempted murders of two others last year.  Herrera’s son and co-defendant, Michael Sandoval, also entered a plea in connection with the case today, avoiding a trial that had been set for December, 2004.

Herrera pleaded guilty to four counts of felony murder (F1) and two counts of attempted first-degree murder (F2) in the deaths of Rose Amador, Sally Mendoza, Bob Pacheco, and Blanca Dueñas-Balbuena and the attempted murders of Douglas Kubo and Carlos Balbuena.  He will be sentenced to four consecutive life sentences and additional prison time (up to 24 years) for each attempted murder.

Sandoval pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated robbery (F3) and will be sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Sentencing for both Herrera and Sandoval is set for October 29, 2004 at 1:30 p.m. in Denver District Court, division 13.
