HERRERA AND
SANDOVAL PLEAD GUILTY
The murder trial of
Edward Herrera ended today when Herrera agreed to plead guilty
to the murders of four people and the attempted murders of two
others last year. Herrera’s son and co-defendant, Michael
Sandoval, also entered a plea in connection with the case today,
avoiding a trial that had been set for December, 2004.
Herrera pleaded
guilty to four counts of felony murder (F1) and two counts of
attempted first-degree murder (F2) in the deaths of Rose Amador,
Sally Mendoza, Bob Pacheco, and Blanca Dueñas-Balbuena and the
attempted murders of Douglas Kubo and Carlos Balbuena. He will
be sentenced to four consecutive life sentences and additional
prison time (up to 24 years) for each attempted murder.
Sandoval pleaded
guilty to one count of aggravated robbery (F3) and will be
sentenced to 15 years in prison.
Sentencing for both
Herrera and Sandoval is set for October 29, 2004 at 1:30 p.m. in
Denver District Court, division 13.
