Man charged with stalking high school students

Denver District Attorney Bill Ritter, Jr. has formally charged a man with stalking three high school students.

Alonzo Smith  (DOB 12-23-76) is charged with three counts of stalking (F5).

The charges allege that on August 13, 2004, Alonzo Smith followed a 14-year-old girl in his car while she was walking along 28th Avenue near Federal.  The following morning, the same man followed her in his car when she got on a bus.  The man followed her to her stop and proceeded to drive away.  On August 17, 2004, two Lincoln High School girls were walking to a local fast food restaurant for lunch when a man started following them in his car.  He was still waiting for them when they left the restaurant and continued to follow them back to school, making several comments along the way.  Smith was taken into custody after the girls reported the incident to their School Resource Officer.

Smith is a registered sex offender in Jefferson County where he resides.  Smith will be formally advised of the charges on September 1, 2004 at 9:00 a.m. in Denver County Courtroom 12T.  Smith’s bond is set at $50,000.
