Man charged in robbery of elderly

Denver District Attorney Bill Ritter, Jr. formally charged a man in connection with a brutal robbery of an elderly woman.

James Huntington (DOB: 9-3-61) is charged with second-degree kidnapping (F2), aggravated robbery (F3), first-degree burglary (F3), second-degree assault on an at-risk adult (F3) and first-degree aggravated motor vehicle theft (F4).  The charges allege that on January 6, 2004 he robbed and assaulted a 71-year-old woman who had been renting him a room in her home.  The charges further allege he locked her up in the basement after he pushed her down the stairs; he then stole her car.  He was arrested several days later when he was found sleeping in the victim’s car.  Additional charges are possible.

Huntington remains in custody in the Denver County Jail and will be advised of the charges on January 20, 2004 at 9:00 a.m. in Denver County Court, room 12T.
