SCREENER CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED THEFT

Denver District Attorney Bill Ritter, Jr. has formally charged an airport security screener accused of trying to steal cash from a woman’s purse as she went through the screening process earlier this month.

Steven McCumber (DOB: 10-17-62) is charged with attempted theft (F5).

On February 2, 2004 a Longmont woman went through security screening at DIA and later discovered her cash was gone.  She reported it and an investigation by the Denver Police Department led to the arrest of McCumber the following day.  The charge alleges that McCumber took the money from her purse and hid it in an x-ray machine.  The money was recovered but not before the victim missed her flight.

McCumber is out on bond and will be formally advised of the charge on February 19, 2004 at 9:00 a.m. in Denver County Court, room 12T.
