CHARGES FILED OVER PHONY VOTER REGISTRATIONS

Denver District Attorney Bill Ritter, Jr. has formally charged two voter registration workers with misdemeanor criminal counts following accusations that they made up names to submit during a voter registration drive.

Monique Mora (DOB: 01-15-84) and Pelonne Page (DOB: 12-10-82) are each charged with six counts of procuring false registrations (M).

The charges allege they filled out numerous registration applications themselves or had others fill out multiple forms with false information, so that they would earn more money.  While Mora and Page were paid for the bogus applications, the applications were weeded out by the Denver Election Commission.  The investigation conducted by the Denver District Attorney’s Office found no indication that any individual named in more than one application intended to vote more than once.

The investigation into similar incidents continues and additional charges are possible.

Procuring false registrations is a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000.00 and/or not more than 18 months in the Denver County Jail.

Mora and Page have been charged by summons and are scheduled to appear in Denver County Court, room 11S, on November 29, 2004 at 8 a.m.
