MAN CHARGED IN GOOD SAMARITAN SHOOTING

Denver District Attorney Bill Ritter, Jr. has formally charged a man accused of trying to rob a woman of her purse and then shooting the man who came to her rescue last week.

Arturo Moreno (DOB 11-28-85) is charged with first-degree assault (F3), attempted aggravated robbery (F1), menacing (F) and attempted robbery of an at-risk adult (F3).

The charges allege that on November 1, 2004, Moreno and two 16-year-old boys tried to rob a woman of her purse in the 700 block of Santa Fe Drive.  The charges further allege that Moreno shot and wounded a man who tried to intervene.

Moreno remains in custody in the Denver County Jail.  His bond is set at $75,000.   He is scheduled to be advised of the charges on Thursday, November 4, 2004 at 9 a.m. in Denver County Court, room 12T.

Two juveniles accused of trying to help Moreno in the robbery are being charged as juveniles.
