Woman Sentenced for Bad Checks and Charged Again

Derri Sue Morgan (DOB 6-14-66) was sentenced to prison today for forging checks at a local King Soopers over a year ago.  Originally charged with 22 counts of criminal impersonation and forgery, Morgan later pleaded guilty to one count of theft, a class four felony.  Morgan was working with a group of 6 others who have already pleaded and been sentenced.  She will serve four years in the Department of Corrections and is ordered to pay more than $6000 in restitution.

Morgan has been charged again today in a new case with forgery (F5).  The charge alleges that she wrote a counterfeit check at a Denver restaurant last month while awaiting sentencing on the earlier case.  Morgan will appear in Denver District Courtroom 12T on March 18, 2004 at 9:00 a.m. for second advisement.

Morgan faces up to 3 years in prison on the new charge.
