MAN CHARGED IN GROCERY STORE ASSAULT

Denver District Attorney Bill Ritter has charged a man accused of attacking and trying to rob a woman at a grocery store in Denver earlier this week.

Michael O’Shaughnessy (DOB: 7-19-56) has been charged with attempted first-degree murder (F2), attempted kidnapping (F2 and F4), second-degree assault (F4), and attempted aggravated robbery (F4).

The charges allege that on September 13, 2004 he approached a 53-year-old woman as she was putting groceries in her car, stabbed her, tried to rob her, then fled.  Denver police were able to track him down a short time later and take him into custody.

O’Shaughnessy remains in custody in the Denver County Jail.  His bond is set at $200,000.  He is scheduled to appear in Denver County Court, room 12T, on September 21, 2004 at 9:00 a.m.
