PURSE SNATCHER SENTENCED

Mercedes Padilla (DOB: 5-30-64) was sentenced this morning for her role in the purse snatching of an 80-year-old Denver woman in January 2003.

Padilla pleaded guilty to one count of robbery of an at-risk adult (F3) on February 3, 2004.  She will serve 10 years in Community Corrections, and must successfully complete the requirements of the Community Corrections program to avoid spending the remainder of her sentence in the Department of Corrections.  She was also ordered to pay $1447 in restitution to the victim.

Hector Hernandez, Padilla’s co-defendant in the case, pleaded guilty to multiple felony charges for this and similar cases.  He is scheduled to be sentenced on May 27, 2004 at 8:30 am in courtroom 23.
