DU assault suspect charged

Denver District Attorney Bill Ritter, Jr. has formally charged a man in connection with two assaults on Denver University students earlier this spring.

Andrew Plancarte (DOB: 02-04-1964) is charged with first-degree burglary (F3), two counts of second-degree kidnapping (F4), and two counts of third-degree assault (M1).

On March 25, 2004 a 32-year-old woman was in her home near the University of Denver when a man came inside and physically assaulted her.  A short time later, the Denver Police Department received another call near DU, in which a 20-year-old woman also reported being physically assaulted by a man with a similar description.

Plancarte was arrested in connection with the assaults in April but was not charged at that time.  Plancarte was arrested on May 26, 2004 and is scheduled to appear in the Denver County Court, room 12T, on Wednesday, June 2, 2004 at 9:00 a.m. for his second advisement.
