MAN CHARGED IN MURDER OF WIFE

Denver District Attorney Bill Ritter, Jr. has formally charged a man in connection with the murder of his wife.

Jose Santiago (DOB 02-03-82) is charged with first-degree murder (F1) and first-degree murder/felony (F1).

The Denver Police Department received a call on October 16, 2004 at about 11 a.m. requesting a welfare check at 1105 S. Cherry Street.  A child could be heard crying inside an apartment but no one answered the phone or the door.  Police found the body of Kristy Santiago inside the apartment.  Her one-year-old child was not hurt.

The charges allege that Jose Santiago murdered his wife after she had asked him to move out.

Santiago was arrested in Moab, Utah on October 19, 2004 and he has waived extradition. He is expected to be returned to Colorado within the next couple of weeks.  No court date has been set at this time.
