MURDER CHARGE
RE-FILED IN SONNENFELD CASE
Denver District
Attorney Bill Ritter, Jr. announced today that he has re-filed
a murder charge against 41-year-old Kurt Sonnenfeld in
connection with the shooting death of his wife, Nancy, on
January 1, 2002.
Sonnenfeld
(DOB: 12-18-62) is charged with first-degree murder after
deliberation (F1).
Sonnenfeld was
taken into custody in Buenos Aires, Argentina earlier this
week on an arrest warrant prepared by the Denver DA’s Office.
Denver police
responded to the Sonnenfeld home about 1:40 a.m. on New Year’s
Day 2002 on a shooting report. Nancy Sonnenfeld was found in
a bedroom with a gunshot wound to her head. She was taken to
the hospital but died several hours later.
Kurt Sonnenfeld
was arrested and charged with his wife’s murder in January
2002 but the charge was dismissed the day before his trial was
set to begin. The investigation continued and new information
was developed by Denver homicide detectives over the last two
years that led to the re-filing of the murder charge.
Sonnenfeld will
remain in custody in Argentina pending extradition.
