Two men charged in liquor store murder

Denver District Attorney Bill Ritter Jr. has formally charged two men in connection with the attempted robbery and murder of a liquor store owner.

Orlando Thompson (07-05-80) is charged with First- Degree Murder after Deliberation ( F1), First-Degree Felony Murder (F1) and Attempted Aggravated Robbery (F1) and Clarence Jenkins (02-13-84) is charged with Felony Murder (F1) and Attempted Aggravated Robbery (F4).

On July 14, 2004 Denver police responded to a liquor store in the 1600 block of East Bruce Randolph Place and found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. The charges allege that Thompson entered the liquor store in a robbery attempt and shot the owner of the store, Getahun Hagos (09-09-48), during a struggle. Jenkins, who remained in the car, is charged under Colorado’s felony murder statute.

Both Thompson and Jenkins remain in Denver County Jail. They will be formally advised of the charges against them on Friday July 23, 2004 in courtroom 12T at 8:30 a.m.
