TORREZ CHARGED IN SECOND MURDER CASE

Denver District Attorney Bill Ritter, Jr. has formally charged a Denver woman in connection with the March 28, 2004 murder of 55-year-old John Hand.

Amber Torrez (DOB: 11-05-84) is charged with first-degree murder after deliberation (F1), first-degree felony murder (F1), aggravated robbery (F3), forgery (F5), and criminal impersonation (F6).

The charges allege that in the early morning hours of March 28, 2004 Torrez accompanied John Hand to his Denver apartment and stabbed him to death.  The charges further allege that she stole the victim’s credit card and later used it (impersonating the victim and forging his signature).

Torrez continues to be held in the Denver County Jail without bond.  She is scheduled to appear in Denver County Court, room 12T, on Monday, May 17, 2004 at 9:00 a.m. to be formally advised of the charges.

Torrez is scheduled to appear in Denver County Court, room 472W, on June 28, 2004 at 9:00 a.m. for a preliminary hearing in connection with her other case involving the murder of 45-year-old Masfin Gezahgn.
