Charges Filed in Cab Driver Murder

Denver District Attorney Bill Ritter, Jr. formally charged a 19-year-old woman today in connection with the murder of a Denver cab driver that occurred on March 29, 2004.

Amber Torrez (DOB 11-5-84) is charged with first-degree murder (F1) in the death of 46-year-old Masfin Gezahgn.

The charges allege that Torrez was riding in a cab when she attacked the driver, Gezahgn with a knife.  He fled the vehicle and she followed, allegedly continuing the attack at the intersection of 18th Street and Gilpin.  Gezahgn was transported to Denver Health Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.

Torrez remains in custody in the Denver County Jail and will appear in Denver County Court on April 8, 2004 at 9:00 a.m. in courtroom 12T for second advisement.  She is being held without bond.
