Man charged with murder of a witness

A Denver Grand Jury has returned an indictment against a man accused of murdering a witness last year.

Tyrone Walker (DOB:  07-15-78) is charged with first-degree murder (F1) and retaliation against a witness/victim (F3).

The victim was a witness in an earlier case against Walker, 26-year-old David Smith.  Smith was sleeping in his car on the morning of April 15, 2003 when he was shot multiple times.  The Grand Jury indictment alleges that Walker fired the fatal shots and then left Smith’s body on a bus bench near 8th Avenue and Colorado Boulevard.

Walker was charged in 1997 with attempted aggravated robbery and conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery in connection with an attempted bank robbery in Denver.

Walker eventually pleaded guilty to attempted robbery and was sentenced to prison.  He was released from custody in 2002.

Walker was arrested September 30, 2004 for Smith’s murder and remains in custody.  He will appear in Denver District Court in courtroom 10 on October 21, 2004 at 8:30 a.m. to be advised of the charges.
