ROBBER GETS 150 YEARS IN PRISON
A man convicted of
trying to kill a grocery store guard last November and robbing
several other people was sentenced to 150 years in prison today.
John Wise
(DOB: 12-16-79) was convicted earlier at trial of attempted
murder, first-degree assault, four counts of aggravated robbery
and one count of attempted aggravated robbery in connection with
a crime spree that took place shortly after midnight on November
23, 2003.
Wise robbed a
convenience store and several customers at gunpoint at 17th
Avenue and Franklin and then a short time later tried to rob a
grocery store at 13th and Krameria. A security guard
at the store, Karim Alsubhi, was shot and permanently paralyzed.
Alsubhi spoke from
his wheelchair at today’s sentencing hearing. He told the judge
that he had forgiven Wise and he did not want any more or any
less of a sentence than what the law and the judge thought was
just. Deputy DA David Karpel read two letters from victims at
the convenience store in which they urged the judge to sentence
Wise to the maximum sentence possible.
