ZAMORA CHARGED IN
OFFICER SHOOTING
Denver District
Attorney Bill Ritter, Jr. has formally charged a man accused of
shooting a Denver police officer last week.
Robert Zamora
(DOB: 4-30-80) is charged with attempted first-degree murder
of a peace officer (F2), first-degree assault on a peace
officer (F3), possession of a controlled substance with
intent to distribute (F3), possession of a controlled
substance (F4), possession of marijuana (M1) and
child abuse (M2).
Zamora also faces
two counts of aggravated robbery in a case filed yesterday.
The charges allege
that on the morning of January 7, 2004, Zamora was driving with
his 2-year-old son and sped away after being pulled over for a
traffic violation. The charges further allege that he shot and
wounded Denver police officer Kevin Kreuzer as the officer gave
chase. Zamora was later taken into custody after he was found
hiding in a nearby home.
The presumptive
range for sentencing on a class 2 felony is up to 24 years in
prison; the range for a class 3 felony is up to 12 years; the
range for a class 4 felony is up to 6 years.
Zamora will appear
in Denver County Court, room 12T, tomorrow, January 15, 2004 at
9:00 a.m. to be advised of the aggravated robbery charges. He
will appear in the same courtroom on Friday, January 16, 2004 at
9:00 a.m. to be advised of the charges filed today. He remains
in custody in the Denver County Jail.
