UPDATE ON 2004 HIT/RUN CASE

On July 25, 2004 a fatal hit and run crash occurred in the 500 block of east 19th Avenue in which 27-year-old Travis Kubiak was killed and Rebecca Zimmerman (now 27 years old) was seriously injured.

The investigation by Denver police detectives has been ongoing since July 2004 and recently resulted in the arrest of Gerald L. Brown (DOB: 6-26-63) in Wichita, Kansas last month, thanks in part to a Crime-Stoppers tip and the continued efforts of the lead detective.  Brown was taken into custody on February 9, 2005 at a relative’s home in Wichita.

The Denver District Attorney’s Office filed an “at-large warrant” charging Brown with two felony counts the following day, February 10, 2005.  He is charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death (F4) and leaving the scene of an accident causing serious bodily injury (F5).

The charges allege that Brown was eastbound on 19th Avenue at about 1:40 a.m. on July 25, 2005 when he hit two pedestrians, Kubiak and Zimmerman, in the 500 block east.  The charges further allege that he did not remain at the scene.

Brown waived extradition on February 11, 2005 and was in custody in the Denver on February 20, 2005.  He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Wednesday, March 16, 2005 at 8:30 a.m. in Denver County Court, room 472W.  The investigation is still continuing.
