MURDER DEFENDANT PLEADS GUILTY AS TRIAL BEGINS

A man on trial for first-degree murder in Denver District Court this week has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of second-degree murder.  Marcilino Carbajal (dob: 11-4-78) is accused of beating his estranged wife to death in June 2004.

This morning, after just one witness testified in his murder trial, Carbajal agreed to plead guilty to second-degree murder with a stipulation that he be sentenced to 40 years in prison.  The sentencing hearing has been scheduled for January 23, 2005 in Denver District Courtroom 19 at 9 a.m.

The body of 25-year-old Dometria Carbajal was found in her home in the 2800 block of Xavier Street on June 6, 2004.  Marcilino “Pat” Carbajal was arrested the next day.
