PARENTS CHARGED IN CHILD STARVATION

Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrissey has charged a Denver couple accused of starving their toddler daughter late last fall.

Tammy Mae Cheasebro (DOB: 11-22-84) and Leroy Shaw (09-13-80) are each charged with one count of child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury (F3).

A one-and-a-half year old girl was taken to Denver Health Medical Center in January 2005 with the appearance of being malnourished and emaciated.  The charges allege that between October 2004 and January 2005 neither Cheasebro nor Shaw regularly fed their daughter and that by the time she was brought to DHMC there was an immediate fear for her life.

Cheasebro and Shaw remain in custody in the Denver County Jail.  Bond has been set for each of them at $50,000.  They are scheduled to appear in Denver County Court on Thursday, April 14, 2005 at 9 a.m. to be formally advised of the charges against them.
