GRAND JURY INDICTS TWO FOR
STEALING MILLIONS
FROM DENVER PAVILIONS DEAL
A Denver Grand Jury has returned
a 14-count indictment against two men involved in constructing
and operating two restaurants in the Denver Pavilions, Margarita
Mama’s and Banana Joe’s.
Jon Field
(09-18-55) and Paul Butler (02-29-68) are each charged
with one count of violating the Colorado Organized Crime
Control Act (F2) (racketeering), one count of conspiracy
to commit theft (F4), 11 counts of theft of more than
$15,000 (F3) and one count of theft of less than $15,000
(F4).
Field and Butler contracted with
Denver Pavilions to build and operate two restaurants in
February 2002, and Denver Pavilions gave them $1,900,000 for
tenant improvements and modifications. The indictment alleges
that Field and Butler stole $1,300,000 of the money and used it
for their personal benefit and unrelated projects. The
indictment also alleges that Field and Butler failed to pay six
local contractors for their work on the project resulting in
losses totaling more than $800,000.
Field and Butler live out of
state and have made arrangements to surrender in Denver next
week. Bond is set at $200,000 for each defendant.
