EXTRADITION REQUEST SUBMITTED

 

The Denver Police Department and the Denver District Attorney’s Office have learned that the formal documents requesting extradition for Raul Gomez-Garcia have now been filed by the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City. 

 

The extradition documents were formally filed yesterday, July 28, 2005, with the government of Mexico.

 

Gomez-Garcia has been charged with second-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder in the shooting death of Denver police officer Donald Young and the wounding of officer John Bishop.

The filing of a criminal charge is merely a formal accusation that an individual(s) committed a crime(s) under Colorado laws.  A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.  See Colo. RPC 3.6
