PRISON FOR WOMAN
DESCRIBED AS CRIME RINGLEADER
A woman accused of scamming
scores of people out of hundreds of thousands of dollars over
the last several years was sentenced to prison today for 34
years.
Golda Harvey
(DOB: 07-04-57) pleaded guilty earlier to securities fraud
(F3) and aggravated motor vehicle theft (F3) and was
given two consecutive 17 year sentences on those counts today.
Denver District Judge William Robbins ordered that the sentence
run concurrent with a 5-year federal prison term she is
currently serving. She was also ordered to pay more than
$270,000 in restitution.
Chief Deputy District Attorney
Joe Morales highlighted Harvey’s career as a con woman, urging
the judge to consider the fact that “her sole function in life
has been to steal money.” He added that an apologetic letter
she sent to the judge prior to sentencing was simply her attempt
to manipulate the system one more time and called it “the last
con.” Morales ran through an abbreviated list of the victims
she had left in her wake, describing how she stole their
investment money, their homes and even their good credit by
stealing their identities.
Harvey was led out of the
courtroom in handcuffs. She will serve a 5-year federal prison
sentence in connection with an immigration scam and will then be
transferred to Colorado’s Department of Corrections to complete
the remaining years on her Denver District Court sentence.
