CHARGES FILED IN HEROIN BUST

Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrissey has charged three men in connection with what is believed to be the largest heroin bust ever in Denver.

Jose Almanza (05-13-75), Marcos Gutierrez (11-16-81) and Emilio Holguin (09-16-69) are each charged with  two counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute (F3),  two counts of conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance (F3), two counts of possession of more than a gram of a controlled substance (F3) and importation.

The charges allege that the three men, who are all from New Mexico, were transporting between 2 and 2 and a half pounds of heroin to Denver.  They were arrested after a traffic stop along I-25 near Hampden about 4:30 a.m. Saturday morning, April 23, 2005.

Jose Almanza remains in custody in the Denver County Jail and will be advised of the charges on Friday, April 29, 2005 at 9 a.m. in Denver County Court room 12T.  Marcos Gutierrez and Emilio Holguin have each been released after posting a $100,000 bond.  They will be in court on May 11, 2005 at 9 a.m.
