SUSPECT KNOWN ONLY BY HIS DNA IS CHARGED IN TWO CASES

Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrissey has formally charged a man linked to two criminal cases by identifying him through his DNA.  This is the first time in Denver that formal charges have been filed against a defendant identified by his genetic markers (DNA) rather than by name and date of birth.

“John Doe” is identified in charging documents as:

He is charged with second-degree burglary (F3) and indecent exposure (M1) in two separate cases.  The first case occurred in August 2002 in which a 22-year-old woman awoke in the early morning hours to find a man lying on her bed masturbating.  The second case occurred in July 2004 in which a 35-year-old woman awoke in the early morning hours to find a man masturbating over her bed.  DNA evidence recovered from the second case was linked to the 2002 case and formal charges were filed in Denver County Court on January 26, 2005.

The defendant’s DNA has now been entered into the Combined DNA Index System increasing the likelihood of further identifying and locating the defendant for prosecution.
