80 YEARS FOR MAN IN P0LICE STANDOFF

A Denver District Court Judge handed down the maximum possible sentence to Richard Lilgerose (DOB: 02-18-76) today for his actions in a police stand-off that occurred in the summer 2003.

Lilgerose was accused of a crime spree in June 2003 that included robbing several women, sexually assaulting one of the women, then engaging in a police stand-off at his home near Federal Boulevard and Alameda Avenue in which he fired at police officers.

Lilgerose was acquitted on several charges at trial, including attempted murder, aggravated robbery and attempted sexual assault. He was convicted of two counts of first-degree assault, attempted assault, and barricading himself in a building.

Lilgerose, who could have been sentenced to as few as 25 years in prison, told the judge during the sentencing hearing today that he had intended to kill the police officers he was firing at but failed because he gun had jammed.  Judge Larry Naves then ordered Lilgerose to serve 80 years in prison -- the maximum sentence possible.
