VEHICULAR HOMICIDE CHARGES FILED

Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrissey formally charged a man today in connection with a fatal crash that occurred over the July 4th holiday weekend.

Marcos Alfonso Briones Madrid (DOB: 08-06-82) is charged with vehicular homicide (F4), three counts of child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury (F3) and leaving the scene of an accident (F4).

The charges stem from a crash at Sheridan Boulevard and Cedar Avenue in the early morning hours of July 5, 2005.  The crash killed 26-year-old Alicia Arano and injured her three children, ages 5, 6 and 7.  Formal charges are pending against Arano’s husband, Jesus Cruz (DOB: 05-14-78) in connection with the incident.

Madrid remains in custody in the Denver County Jail.  His bond was set at $35,000.  He is scheduled to appear in Denver County Court, room 12T, on Tuesday, July 12, 2005 at 9 a.m. to be advised of the charges.
