MORRIS SENTENCED TO MAXIMUM

30-year-old Gregory Morris was sentenced to 96 years in prison today in connection with the stabbing death of 25-year-old Jamila Allen in November 2003.

Morris was convicted earlier of second-degree murder and was found guilty today of being an habitual criminal which allowed Denver District Court Judge Robert McGahey to hand down the maximum 96-year sentence.

The victim was represented at the sentencing hearing by numerous family members and friends including her mother, father and grandmother.

Allen was stabbed to death on November 12, 2003 in an attack that occurred in front of her 4-year-old son.  Morris was arrested a short time later.  He had been charged with first-degree murder but the jury deliberating his case returned a verdict of second-degree murder late last fall.
