MAN CHARGED WITH MURDER

Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrissey has filed additional charges against a man in connection with a fatal shooting last week.

Kelly Phillips (DOB: 09-27-79) is charged with first-degree murder (F1) and attempted first-degree murder (F2) in connection with a shooting on July 8, 2005 that left Mostaffa Zareie dead and Jhamar Martin wounded.  Phillips was charged earlier this week with attempted first-degree murder and first-degree assault in connection with a shooting on July 5, 2005 in which Corey Morrison was wounded (see earlier news release on these charges).

The charges allege that Phillips went to an apartment in the 4300 block of Cook Street last Friday night about 4:30 p.m. and shot Zareie and Martin. The surviving victim of the shooting was able to physically restrain Phillips at the scene until police arrived and took him into custody.  Phillips was already a suspect in the shooting of Morrison at the time.

Phillips remains in custody in the Denver County Jail.  He is being held without bond and is scheduled to appear in Denver County Court, room 12T, on July 19, 2005 at 9 a.m. to be formally advised of today’s charges.
