Former cop sentenced in bar brawl

A former Denver police officer has been sentenced for an incident that occurred while he was working off-duty providing security for a Denver restaurant last summer.  He broke up a bar fight but was then accused of hitting a 25-year-old man after the altercation had ended and the man was already handcuffed.

Michael Rossi (DOB: 08-30-64) pleaded guilty earlier to third-degree assault.  As part of the plea agreement, Rossi was required to resign from the Denver Police Department.  He was also sentenced to a one-year deferred judgment supervised by the probation department and was ordered to complete 40 hours of community service work and pay $331 in court fees and costs.
