MAN CHARGED WITH ANIMAL CRUELTY IN DV CASE

Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrissey has charged a man with animal cruelty in connection with a domestic violence incident in which a kitten died.

James Valdez (DOB: 01-01-76) is charged with one count of aggravated cruelty to animals (F6).

The charge alleges that during a domestic argument on May 13, 2005, in the 1000 block of South Quivas Street, Valdez picked up a 4-month-old kitten that belonged to his girlfriend and threw it against a wall.  The kitten had to be euthanized due to its injuries.

Valdez remains in custody in the Denver County Jail.  His bond has been set at $10,000.  He is scheduled to be formally advised of the charge on June 6, 2005 at 9 a.m. in Denver County Court, room 12T.
