PRISON TIME FOR MAN WHO KIDNAPPED 11-YEAR-OLD

A 24-year-old man who betrayed the trust of a family that had taken him into their home is going to prison.

Jesus Valenzuela appeared in Denver District Court today and was sentenced to 11 years in prison for kidnapping and attempted sexual assault on a child.

The victim’s family had been letting Valenzuela stay with them at their Denver home last summer because he was out of work.  On July 11, 2004 he kidnapped an 11-year-old girl.  The kidnapping prompted an Amber Alert which helped police find Valenzuela the next day in Glendale.  He was arrested without incident and the girl was returned safely to her family.

The judge gave Valenzuela just one year less than the maximum of 12 years.
