FORMER CITY WORKER CHARGED WITH EMBEZZLEMENT

Denver District Attorney Bill Ritter, Jr. filed formal charges today against a former Denver city employee and another man accused of stealing money from the city.

Derrick L. Brown (DOB: 10-20-76) is charged with two counts of theft (F3), two counts of embezzlement of public property (F5), and conspiracy (F4).

Marcus L. Milon (DOB: 9-3-77) is charge with theft (F3) and conspiracy (F4).

The charges allege that in 2002 Milon created fictitious company invoices that Brown “approved” and sent through the city’s payment process while he worked in the Public Works department.  The charges allege that Milon received two checks from the city totaling $23,330 and shared the money with Brown.

The charges also allege that in 1999 Brown intercepted and cashed a check for $21,193 from Denver Health that was supposed to go to Denver’s Asset Management division, to the attention of Derek Brown

Brown and Milon voluntarily surrendered today and were taken into custody.  Bond was set at $25,000 for Brown.  Bond for Milon was set at $10,000.  Their next court date was not available late Monday.
