FORMER WORKER
SENTENCED
Derrick L. Brown
(DOB: 10-20-76), a former part-time worker in Denver’s Public
Works Department, was sentenced today for his role in stealing
thousands of dollars from the city.
He pleaded guilty in
September to one count of theft (F4) and was sentenced today to
60 days in jail with work release and 6 years of probation. He
was also ordered to pay $44,524 in restitution and must write a
letter of apology to Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper.
The Denver District
Attorney’s investigation revealed that Brown conspired with a
friend, Marcus Milon (DOB: 9-3-77), to create phony companies
and send fake invoices through the city’s payment process.
Brown also intercepted and cashed a check that was supposed to
go to the city.
Milon pleaded guilty
earlier this year to criminal impersonation and was sentenced to
18 months of probation, 144 hours of community service, and his
portion of the restitution.
