BURGOYNE SENTENCED IN MURDER CASE

Dean Burgoyne (DOB: 2-17-68) appeared in Denver District Court today, February 28, 2003, for sentencing in connection with the murder of his mother and the hit-and-run death of bicyclist Terry Spencer in 2001.

Burgoyne, who pleaded guilty earlier to second-degree murder and vehicular homicide, was sentenced to 60 years in prison.  He was given 48 years for the murder of his mother, Diane Brown; he was given 12 years for the death of Spencer.  The judge ordered that they be served consecutively.

Spencer was killed by a hit-and-run driver on January 4, 2001 while he was riding his bicycle near Holly and Jewell.  Denver police identified Burgoyne as a suspect and arrested him later that day.  On January 6, 2001, officers found the body of his mother in his home at 1430 South Glencoe Street.
