MAN CHARGED IN NIGHT CLUB SHOOTING

Denver District Attorney Bill Ritter Jr., has formally filed charges against a man accused of shooting a bouncer at a night club in Denver on September 22, 2003.

Tarell Burton (DOB: 5-12-79) was charged with one count of first degree murder (F1) yesterday.

The charge alleges that Burton was asked to leave the club by the victim, 42-year-old Shawn Johnson, after being involved in a disturbance inside the club.  Johnson was shot once in the back a few minutes later, and died at Denver Health Medical Center.  Further investigation led Denver Police to identify Burton as a suspect in the case.  He was arrested October 10, 2003 when he voluntarily surrendered at the Denver Police Department.

Burton remains in jail and is scheduled to appear in Denver County court on October 20, 2003, at 9:00 am for his second advisement.
